Meet Jamie Lewis, Shepparton Culture Kitchen Lead Artist, Singaporean Eurasian artist, facilitator and dramaturg.
Jamie says, “I feel so honoured to share this space with the incredible participants, and to be able to support their process through my artistic practice. This project centres the voices and perspectives of the 8 women, all of whom share very varied life experiences and ways of being in this world. They also have the voices of their families and communities that make up Shepparton behind them.
On top of the impact this project can have on intercultural relationships and healthy eating, this project – in privileging these women’s voices and their cultural heritage – will also facilitate leadership, agency and autonomy within these community members! Shepparton can be proud to know that these leaders are already within it!”
Shepparton Culture Kitchen is a new project co-produced by MAV and Greater Shepparton City Council, to explore the diverse food cultures of Shepparton’s diaspora communities and the vital role they play in addressing issues of health inequity and disadvantage facing the region.
Shepparton Culture Kitchen is proudly supported by VicHealth, Greater Shepparton City Council, Australia Council for the Arts, Creative Victoria.
