Dawn Raga at Monash MPavilion is a series of musical meditations exploring traditional Indian instrumental music as a conduit to relaxation and serenity.

People are invited to start their autumn Sundays by awakening their senses through the sounds of Indian classical music at the free Dawn Raga series on Sunday 18 and 25 April 2021.

Delivered over a two part series, the sessions will feature various instruments, each bringing with them a dimension to the meditative landscape, exploring ragas that create an ambience of relaxation and ease.

Audiences will be immersed in the meditative and spiritual sounds of the flute, violin and mridangam with the uplifting beats of the tabla. The free musical journey through tranquil and uplifting South Asian music has been designed to energize and prepare audiences for the day ahead.

Raga, in Indian classical music, is the melodic framework for improvisation and composition. It is based on a scale with a given set of notes, a typical order in which they appear in melodies, and characteristic musical motifs. By using only these notes, by emphasizing certain degrees of the scale, and by going from note to note, the performer sets out to create a mood or atmosphere.
