In 2021 the Festival Reimagined is presenting a very diverse and rich mix of monthly programming for our online and radio audience, and live events are returning in October.

The expression and sharing of both cultural differences and cross-cultural connections is such a positive thing now and into the future. SARITA MCHARG AND JACOB PAPADOPOULOS | INDIA MEETS GREECE

In this program India meets Greece on this new exciting music episode with two talented Melbourne based artists: Sarita McHarg (Sitar and Vocalist) and Jacob Papadopoulos (Bouzouki player and Poet).

Enjoy their mesmerizing collaborative performances and conversations about common stories from traditional folk songs sung in both countries and Bollywood films that impacted their culture.

WHANG ZHENG TING AND VINOD PRASANNA | CULTURAL AND MUSICAL CONNECTIONS

The magical sounds of two ancient instruments: Sheng (Chinese mouth organ) and Bansuri (Indian flute) join us for the first time on this special episode with two great masters of their music traditions.

Wang Zheng Ting and Vinod Prasanna create new sonic worlds in this exclusive performance and interview where cultural boundaries disappear and give space to spiritual human connections.

IAKI VALLEJO WITH GUESTS DAVID JONES AND EVRI EVRIPIDOU

This program is a very special re-encounter of Iaki, David and Evri for the Victorian Seniors Festival. After 8 years, these three top jazz artists reconnect, and bring Australia and Latin America closer through their sounds.

Featuring:
Iaki Vallejo – singing since the age of 10, Colombian singer/songwriter Iaki Vallejo has travelled the world, composing, performing and studying with luminary figures. She released her first album in Australia in 2016, and her new EP contains seven original songs ranging from ballads, currulao, jazz, reggae and salsa. In 2019 Iaki was nominated for Music Victoria’s best intercultural act. iaki.com.au

David Jones – acclaimed, innovative Master drummer and educator, David Jones is a Melbourne based, world class performer and recording artist. Experienced in all styles of music, David is also a mesmerising solo drummer/percussionist.

Evripidies Evripidou – Evri is one of Australia’s leading bassists. He holds a degree in Jazz and Classical studies and has toured alongside artists such as James Morrison and Antonio Sanchez. Evripides has gained a reputation as an inventive and electrifying player through innovative use of multi string basses and electronic effects.

DAVID MARAM WITH GUESTS FEM BELLING AND ROLF KOREN

David Marama is a Malawian singer and guitar player who has been a feature of the Melbourne music scene for the past 30 years. For this video he draws on his African roots and is joined by South African born Fem Belling, an outstanding jazz vocalist and violinist and percussionist Rolf Koren. Be witness to their magic connection between these artists which goes beyond the standard instrumentation by incorporating vocal percussion techniques.

David Marama – Malawian singer and guitar player who has been a feature of the Melbourne music scene for the past 30 years. David has performed with the Public Opinion Afrobeat Orchestra at a number of festivals including Womadelaide and the Woodford Folk Festival. He has studied International Law and Diplomacy in Russia, and divides his passion for music with photography, politics and social causes.

Fem Belling – South African born vocalist and violinist, Fem is emerging as one of Australia’s most formidable and in demand performers. Her African Jazz roots powerfully augment her unique musicality and interpretations. Hailing from a musical dynasty, Fem learned jazz at her father’s knee in South Africa and cut her teeth growing up in jazz clubs. Fem has four current music projects in high demand – her South African Jazz Septet, Social Conscience Original Project, The Fem Belling Quintet, and a 19 piece Afrobeat Orchestra that recently collaborated with Femi Kuti.
